“I believe that Roanoke County has the potential for amazing success and prosperity.
With these three policies in place, we can fully reach that potential.”
I want to see the budget accurately reflect what is necessary to provide excellent services for all of Roanoke County’s legitimate functions and I believe these budget increases are unnecessary to achieving that goal.
Under the current Republican leadership the county budget has grown $15,000,000 in just the last 3 years. The current all Republican Board is planning another increase of $3,000,000 this year alone.
The Republican Creed says “That fiscal responsibility and budgetary restraints must be exercised at all levels of government”
With $8,000,000 per year going to bankers and $2,000,000 per year being given to the charities and agencies outside of Roanoke County’s government, it would be hard to claim our current all Republican board is being responsible or exercising “budgetary restraints”
I want to see the budget accurately reflect what is necessary to provide excellent services for all of Roanoke County’s legitimate functions and I believe these budget increases are not needed to do so.
Under the current Republican leadership the county debt will almost double from 2007 to 2017 from $108,000,000 to approximately $200,000,000. Our board members have actually said owing hundreds of millions in debt and wasting $8,000.000 on interest paid to bankers is smart financially and good for our county. I do not accept this false assertion. Less debt means lower taxes and the availability of more money for the services Roanoke County needs.
Just ask yourself, isn’t it bad for my children to inherit this debt and wouldn’t it be more responsible to have less debt?
Of course it would be. This is just common sense.
Politicians are forced to make better decisions when what they do is open and public. Transparent government should be non-negotiable. Too much of Roanoke County’s business is done in secret or concealed in one way or another and this must end so the citizens of Roanoke County can once again be in control of our local government.
